The finals of the Hurley Cup were held on Friday night.
Semifinal line up was:
Paraic and Liz v Niall and Brenda
Sean and Jeanine v Freda and Timmy
The finalists were Paraic and Liz and Sean and Jeanine. It was shaping up to be a tight match until Jeanine had to retire due to injury. Congratulations to Liz and Paraic. You’ll be the bee’s knees in your designer shades!
Many thanks to Barry Hurley for sponsoring the event so generously again this year.
A good crowd turned out to watch and Tish provided a very tasty Green Thai Curry. Desserts were by Maggie, Eileen and Catherine. All in all it was a very enjoyable evening. Hard luck Sean and Jeanine and may you make a speedy recovery Jeanine.

Tara on her wedding day.
Congratulations to Tara Mukerjee who got married to Kieran Dwyer on Friday October 21st. The bride looked fabulous. It’s been a good year for Tara on the tennis front as well. She moved up to Grade 3 in the October regrades. Well done Mrs Dwyer!
Congratulations also to Team Bandon who did so well in Bishopstown’s Larry Byrne Cup held at the weekend. Our team consisting of Billy and Freda Roycroft and Brian and Joan Gollins made it to the semifinals before being defeated by Sundays Well. Great stuff!
Alan O’Mahony of Bounce Tennis Academy has brought Cardio Tennis to Bandon!
A session is designed to keep a group of eight on the move over two courts, for an hour and a half. Alan promised plenty of heart pumping exercise, shot practice and fun and he certainly delivers.
The exercise doesn’t seem so hard disguised with music and games, but the aching muscles on the following day tell a tale. Great fun and good for you too! Highly recommended!
Well done to everybody who helped to make our Open tournament such a success!
Maggie did a magnificent job managing courts and players and keeping delays to a minimum.
Eileen made sure that the kitchen ran smoothly and twisted many an arm to provide the best of homemade goodies.
Roger patrolled the courts, clipboard in hand, in his role as referee, making sure all rules were abided by.
Mary proved to be a dab hand at extracting cash for the raffle from unsuspecting kitchen customers, and Brendan nabbed anybody Mary missed!
Other committee members Tish, Lisa, Susan, Paraic, Sean, Niall and Catherine gave up a huge amount of time during the week doing whatever needed to be done.
A big thank you to all club members for cooking, doing kitchen duty, providing raffle prizes and for participating. Special thanks to Declan for being official photographer. Photos will be put up on the website very soon.
Congratulations to our own finalists Jenny, Jo, Brenda, Ivan and Declan. You did us proud!
Congratulations to Niall Cloke from Rushbrooke who won first prize in the raffle (tennis racquet) as well as making it to two finals.
Thank you to the competitors who came from clubs all over the county. We value your support, the excellent tennis and the camaraderie we all enjoyed during the week.
